    Andi Chettiar, a menrachan of kottar used to visit this temple of Bhuthalingam daily walking seven miles. One day he reached the temple after pooja hours.Fortunately for him the temple doors were not closed and poojas were conducted when he entered the temple. while returning from the temple the devotte saw the temple priest and asked him,How could you reach here from the temple so early? I have receive prasadam from you just now. The priest understood the miraculous incident that had happened and replied This is the grace of the lord.The temple was closed two hours before you arrival.Delighted with rapture the merchat constructed the mahamandapa whichwas name after him.The cocunat grooves infront of the shrine are said to be donated to the temple by the Chettiar himself.The village near the shrine is locally called andithoppu.
